- Effective July 1, 2005, there will be a change in fees for applications
for marriage licenses in the State of Georgia pursuant
to House Bill 378. The fees are as follows:
- $56.00: Without certification of Premarital Counseling
- $21.00: Upon Presentation of a Certificate
of Completion of a qualifying premarital education program. Please contact us for the Standard Form.
(A
qualifying premarital education program
shall include at least six hours
of instruction involving marital issues performed
by a professional counselor, social worker,
or marriage and family therapist; a psychiatrist;
a psychologist; or an active member of
the clergy, or the designee of such active member
of the clergy, provided the designee is skilled and
trained in premarital education.)
(These amounts include a certfied copy of the license). We accept
cash, check, or money order.
- Both the bride and the groom must be present to obtain the license.
- The bride and the groom must present proper identification (only one form of I.D. is needed).
Valid identifications are: driver's license, birth certificate, state I.D. card, passport, armed forces I.D. card, resident alien I.D. card.
- The bride and groom must provide their Social Security number.
- If either the bride or groom has been previously married and divorced, a copy of the final divorce
decree (dated and signed by the judge) must be provided. (Make certain that it is the final divorce
decree, not the agreement.)
- If either the bride or the groom has been married previously and the marriage was dissolved by death, please
provide the place and date of death.
- The bride and the groom will need to provide the full name and birthplace (city or county and state)
of both of their parents.
- You must be 18 years of age to apply for a marriage license,
except in certain special circumstances. Minor persons 16 or 17
years of age may receive a marriage license if both of the minor's
parents reside in the household, or the parent with custody, if
the parents are legally separated or divorced, give written consent
to the minor's marriage in person at the time of application. If you are under the age of 16, you may not
obtain a marriage license.
- Georgia law requires each applicant to designate the legal surname he or
she will use after marriage. The applicant may choose (1) his or her
present surname, (2) his or her spouse's surname or (3) a combination of the two.

to make an appointment.
