Treatment Diversion Court
The purpose of the Treatment Diversion Courts in Fulton County State and Magistrate Court is to facilitate collaboration
and cooperation between mental health, substance abuse and the court system by intervening with individuals with
mental illness and co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders. The mental health providers provide
courts with appropriate mental health and substance abuse sentencing options/sanctions, while protecting the public
safety. We shall work to educate law enforcement, court personnel and community mental health substance abuse
programs about mental illnesses. This court, with the defendants, will work to decrease their return to jail, reduce time
in jail; increase treatment options; assist families; reduce homelessness, and assist individuals with jobs and/or
benefits so they develop greater self-reliance.
