MAGISTRATE COURT FINE SCHEDULE

The following fine schedule is for violations committed on, or after, February 1, 2009.

THE FINES REFERENCED BELOW APPLY ONLY TO PAYMENTS THAT MAY BE MADE BY MAIL, OR, PAID IN PERSON, AT ONE OF THE OFFICES OF THE TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS BUREAU, PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED COURT DATE. PAYMENT BY MAIL MUST BE A CASHIER’S CHECK OR MONEY ORDER. PERSONAL CHECKS ARE NOT ACCEPTED. IF YOU ARE PAYING IN PERSON, WE ALSO ACCEPT MASTER CARD, VISA, DEBIT CARD OR CASH.

IN COURT, ALL JUDGES HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO IMPOSE A HIGHER, OR LOWER, FINE.

CERTAIN VIOLATIONS ARE “COURT ONLY” AND CANNOT BE PAID PRIOR TO COURT OR BY MAIL.

IF YOU WERE 17 YEARS OF AGE AT THE TIME OF THE VIOLATION, YOU MUST APPEAR IN COURT WITH A PARENT OR GUARDIAN. THIS APPLIES TO ALL VIOLATIONS.

ALL OF THE FINES INCLUDE A MANDATORY SURCHARGE OF 35% TO 40%, IMPOSED BY GEORGIA LAW, FOR CERTAIN LOCAL AND STATEWIDE PROGRAMS. FULTON COUNTY THEREFORE ONLY RECEIVES A PORTION OF THE ACTUAL FINE AMOUNT.

(Note: Any individual who is charged with speeding more than 5 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, but less than 34 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, may receive a lesser fine than is posted on the above schedule if this is the first lifetime offense of speeding. In order to determine whether or not this provision applies to you, it is mandatory that you personally appear in Court on your assigned court date and execute the appropriate paperwork for submission to the Judge.)

FAILURE TO APPEAR/FAILURE TO PAY FINE

Anyone who fails to pay his/her fine within 7 days of the Court date, or within the time permitted by the Court, shall be assessed a $100 late fee in addition to the fine, and is subject to any other penalties authorized by law.
