The Superior Court Judges of this Circuit recognize through long years of experience that domestic relations cases can be very stressful experiences for the entire family, especially children. For this reason a
Seminar for Divorcing Parents program was implemented by this Court in cases where minor children are concerned. The program covers appropriate cases of divorce, modification of visitation, separate maintenance, custody, paternity, visitation, legitimation, domestic violence, and contempt actions.
The required seminar is a four-hour educational program focusing on the needs of the children during and after the divorce process. The seminar is conducted by qualified and experienced professionals. Subjects covered include the impact of divorces on families; the typical reactions from children; coping skills for the children; and commons "pitfalls" that can be avoided.
The parties are allowed to select from a Court approved list of seminar providers. Partricipating parties will receive a Certificate of Completion from the provider upon full completion of the seminar. The cost of the seminar ranges from $25 to $30 per person, and is paid directly to the seminar provider by the participating parties. It is the parties' responsibility to register and pay the seminar provider.
