Atlanta, GA — Ms. Marla S. Moore, Director, announced her plans to retire from the Judicial Council/Administrative Office of the Courts at today’s Judicial Council meeting in Atlanta. In July 2009, Ms. Moore was unanimously selected by the Judicial Council to oversee the work of its Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC).
Ms. Moore began her service to the Georgia court system as Judicial Liaison Officer at the AOC in 1981. She worked as lead staff on numerous task forces, committees, and initiatives to improve the administration of trial courts. Among her noteworthy accomplishments are her longstanding emphasis on access and fairness and removing bias toward court participants. Through increasingly responsible positions, she supervised, mentored, and furthered the professional development of court professionals throughout the state. Ms. Moore left the AOC in 2006 to serve as a division director of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council until 2009.
After returning to the AOC as Director, Ms. Moore restructured the agency to focus on core responsibilities in response to significant reductions in state appropriations. Under her leadership, the Judicial Council/AOC dedicated resources to make the jury selection process inclusive of all eligible Georgians; expanded access to Information Technology in Georgia’s courts; partnered with the Center for Public Policy Studies and the Court Innovation Project to raise awareness and develop training curricula on the subject of Human Trafficking; partnered with the National Center for State Courts Institute for Court Management to train a cadre of court administrators; revised policies for the practice of court reporting to take advantage of changing technology; reorganized support to the several boards, councils, and commissions that license or certify court professionals; and recently, adopted and began implementing a strategic plan. In 2012, Ms. Moore was recognized by her peers and the National Center for State Courts with the Center’s Distinguished Service Award.
